Joan Baez 琼拜雅这位美国民谣之后，有好几首学吉他者必备的传世之作，
如"Donna , Donna"、"The night they drove old Dixies down"及"Diamonds and rust"等。
　琼拜雅的嗓音清亮、纯淨，技巧成熟，
许多知名作曲家都乐意提供作品给她，
因而她比较知名的曲子大都不是自己所写，
“Diamonds and rust.”是她自己谱写的歌曲中最为人熟知的一首。
　这首歌的歌词冗长，意象繁複，难以了解其中意涵，原因是歌词中所讲的是琼拜雅个人的一段恋情。
　琼拜雅于50年代末投入美国民歌运动，
进入60年代，她遇见了巴布狄伦（Bob Dylan，被尊称为“民谣摇滚之父”，写出过多首名曲），
两人心心相惜，彼此都十分赏识对方的才华，而展开了一段秘密恋情。
　这段感情最后无疾而终，
1975年，琼拜雅写下这首曲子，纪念当年两人亦师亦友的感情，
后来“钻石和铁锈”也被认为是她最好的一首创作曲。

钻石：象征对爱情的执着追求和坚定的信念。

铁锈：隐喻随时间的流逝，曾经的爱的诺言已经蜕变。
